PET AND CAREGIVER

Your pet’s state may sometimes reflect the emotional atmosphere at home

Pets who live closely with us become familiar with our voice, body language, routine and emotional changes. A caregiver’s long-term stress, grief, fear or tension may sometimes affect the way a pet responds to the home environment.

This does not mean every difficulty is caused by the caregiver. Pain, illness, temperament, past experiences and environmental triggers may also play an important role.

Awareness is not about blame. It is an opportunity to care for both your pet and yourself.

Sometimes we begin by seeking help for our pet, and then realise that their condition has also brought our own anxiety, fear of loss, need for control or emotional exhaustion to the surface. Personal healing support for the caregiver can also be arranged with BoBo.

🐾 PET LITTLE FACTS

Small signals that help you understand your pet

Not every behaviour has one fixed meaning. Context and changes over time matter.

Cats and dogs communicate through sleep positions, tails, sounds, distance, eye contact and everyday habits. The most useful comparison is often your pet’s usual behaviour versus what has changed recently.

🐱 Cat Little Facts

Sleep, blinking, purring and hiding can all offer clues about how a cat is feeling.

😴 Does where a cat sleeps mean something?
Sleeping near your head or chest may be linked to familiar scent, warmth and security. Sleeping near your feet may allow more personal space and an easy way to move away. Sleeping alone does not automatically mean a cat feels distant.
📦 Why do cats love boxes?
Boxes provide shelter, warmth and a predictable enclosed space. During environmental changes, a safe hiding place that a cat can enter and leave freely may help them settle.
👀 Is slow blinking a sign of affection?
Slow blinking often happens during calm, non-threatening interactions and can be one sign of comfort or trust. It is still best interpreted together with ear position, body posture and the overall situation.
🐾 Why do cats knead with their paws?
Kneading begins during kittenhood. Adult cats may continue doing it when they feel comfortable, relaxed or connected to something familiar. Some cats knead often and others rarely do.
💨 Why does my cat suddenly run around at night?
Cats may naturally become more active in the evening. Short bursts of running and jumping can simply release energy. If the change comes with distress, vocalising, collisions or a major sleep change, observe more closely.
🎵 Does purring always mean happiness?
No. Purring is common during comfort, but some cats may also purr when stressed, uncomfortable or self-soothing. Appetite, breathing, hiding and willingness to be touched provide important additional clues.

🐶 Dog Little Facts

Yawning, tail movement, following and sleep positions can also reflect a dog’s state.

🛏️ Can a dog’s sleeping position show comfort?
Side sleeping with a relaxed body often appears during comfortable rest. Curling up may conserve warmth or protect the body. Temperature, habit, age and physical condition also affect sleeping positions.
🐕 Why does my dog follow me everywhere?
It may come from attachment, expectation, habit or seeking security. If being apart leads to intense distress, destruction or persistent barking, separation-related stress may need further support.
👋 Does a wagging tail always mean a happy dog?
Not always. Tail movement shows emotional arousal and may reflect excitement, anticipation, uncertainty or tension. Look at tail height, speed, body stiffness, ears and facial expression together.
🥱 Is yawning only about being sleepy?
Dogs yawn when tired, but yawning may also appear during stressful or unfamiliar situations. The timing and surrounding body language help explain what it may mean.
🧸 Why does my dog bring me a toy?
Your dog may be inviting play, sharing something valuable, or asking for attention. Some dogs bring toys to show them but do not actually want the toy taken away, so watch the rest of their body language.
💗 Can dogs sense their caregiver’s emotions?
Dogs pay close attention to human voice, posture, movement and daily routine, so they may respond differently when a caregiver is tense or calm. This does not mean every dog problem is caused by the caregiver; health, environment, experience and temperament also matter.
Gentle reminder: These are everyday observation tips, not diagnostic rules. If your pet suddenly shows persistent hiding, pain, refusal to eat, breathing changes, elimination changes, increased aggression or a noticeable drop in energy, please consult a qualified veterinarian first.
